sir,

#ith reference to your letter No.083/6969 (M.0.1.)

of the 14th January relative to the applications from thirty youn, German residents in Hong Kong for enlistment in the nong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, am directed by

Br. teoretary kaen to request you to inform the ArMY Council that in his opinion these applications should be

rejcated.

The Secretary of state would draw attention to

the fact that German residents abroad are now being

organized to an increasing extent through the Nationali Socialist Party in Germany, that the members of the foreign branches of the .arty owe allegiance primarily to the Quran Chancellor, and that it would be unwise to rely in all circumstances on their loyalty to the British authorities in Hong Kong, more particul:rly in the event of some future political understanding between Germany and

Japan.

3. A copy of this letter is being ment

Colonial office.

The Under-Seorutary of tate,

Var uffice.
